Job Description: Anna University is proudly launching research fellowships in the name of our beloved leader Dr.C.N.Annadurai as “Anna Centenary Research Fellowships” in order to further intensify research in thrust areas and to carve a niche in the National and International arena. About 45 research fellowships will be awarded to Full-time research scholars every year admitted to Ph.D. programme . on merjt basis from January 2011 session onwards. Each fellowship will carry a monthly stipend of Rs.12,000/- and annual contingency grant of Rs.25,000/-. These research fellowships will be awarded for a maximum period of three years or till the submission of Thesis whichever is earlier.

Scholarships Description: The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) a publicly funded, self-governing oragnisation of the institutions of higher learning in Germany, promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with developing countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programmes. DAAD cooperates with ANSTI by offering a number of in-region scholarships for Masters and Ph.D degrees.
Participants in the programme must be from ANSTI member institutions and may not exceed the age limit of 36 years by date of nomination. Applicants may not apply for studies in their home countries.
Scholarships, which cover fees, subsistence and international travel, are awarded to staff of ANSTI member institutions ( View ANSTI Members ) for postgraduate studies (M.Sc. or Ph.D) at African universities for staff development.
Scholarships are awarded to sub-Saharan African nationals for studies outside the applicants’ home countries.
The initial award of the fellowships covers one year. Extension is possible up to two years for Masters courses or more for Ph.D studies upon successful completion of previous year.
* Applicants must also meet the following criteria: Applicants must hold a good bachelors degree (at least 2nd class upper division).
* Applicants must obtain official admission to the host university prior to his/her application for the fellowship.

American PhD Scholarships Family and School Influence
PhD Scholarships of Family and School Influence on Future Life Plans, Amsterdam
Job Description: The department of Social Research Methodology, Faculty of Social Sciences, VU University Amsterdam, has a vacancy for a PhD position, funded by a grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
Research project: The influence of family and school on future life plans of adolescents
This research project aims to study the future life plans of adolescents. Attention will be paid to their ambitions for their educational and occupational careers, and to their intentions with regard to family formation. An important question is to what extent – in this era of individualization – the future plans of adolescents are still influenced by their social environment: the parents, the school, and the peer group, and whether this influence depends on the field of planning.
The PhD student is expected to:
* analyze survey data with sophisticated multi-level modelling techniques;
* conduct a small data collection among the schools that participate in the study;
* write articles for international peer reviewed scientific journals;
* write a PhD thesis;
* participate in the activities of the research programme Social Inequalities and the Life Course (SILC) of the Department;
* contribute to the teaching tasks of the Department.
Eligibility
* candidate with a relevant university Masters degree in Sociology, Demography or another Social Science;
* excellent knowledge of quantitative methods of analysis is required.;
* the PhD research candidate needs to be proficient in spoken and written English.
Additional information
The PhD position will be available at the VU University Amsterdam in the Department of Social Research Methodology. The appointment will be available initially for 12 months. After a successful evaluation the contract will be prolonged with 36 months. The candidate will participate in the PhD programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Salary The salary is € 2.042,- gross per month in the first year, increasing to € 2.612,- in the fourth year based on full-time employment.
